
The first 3 days: Decompression

Your dog is likely to be stressed, scared, and overwhelmed.

Provide a quiet, safe space for them to rest and retreat.

Avoid overstimulation, forcing interactions, or introducing them to new people or pets.

Establish a basic routine for feeding, walking, and potty breaks.
The first 3 weeks: Settling in

Your dog will start to explore, learn the new environment, and begin to show their true personality.

Keep the routine consistent and use positive reinforcement to reward good behavior.

Begin to gradually introduce them to other family members and pets.

Behavioral issues may start to emerge, so consistent training and setting boundaries are important.
The first 3 months: Building trust and feeling at home

Your dog should be feeling more comfortable, secure, and have bonded with the family.

Continue with positive reinforcement and daily routines to build a stronger relationship.

Gradually expose them to new environments, people, and situations to build confidence.

Expand on basic training, such as teaching more advanced commands or enrolling in a training class.
